Now, Shadow being overpowered, MAYBE there's some merit there. The most emo thing about Shadow I've seen would be the non-canon scene in Shadow the Hedgehog where he laments he's nothing but a weapon and thus should have never been created. (Picture Darth Vader sounding like a fangirl not so threatening anymore is he?) I can understand perception being incorrect since the voice DOES determine it quite a bit. from 2005 to 2010, yes, there were some issues the voice actor either made him sound angry or depressed. I just hate people tossing around the term without thinking how it applies. Maybe I've put too much thought into this. Point? Grief is perfectly natural, especially when you didn't have many people around to begin with, and so hardly makes one "emo."
Sounds pretty depressing! Not to mention, if he's emo for still getting chills from his best friend's death(which, to his mind, would only be 1-2 years ago since he was frozen for 50!), then so is my uncle, who still is haunted by his friends' demises in the Gulf War. This means he woke up all alone, with nobody to call a friend.

We generally think "sorrow" in terms of emo behavior. Shadow's emotions actually aren't very visible. What exactly is it that makes Shadow "emo" in some people's eyes? This includes the much more sorrowful moments of Shadow's past, which many thought wasn't a good direction for an otherwise (usually) brightful and cheery series like Sonic. Much of the dislike is from Shadow's darker backstory compared to the rest of the series. He is the Scrappy of the series, that is, the character who is either loved or hated by each person. If any character is a base breaker, it would be Shadow.
